High Street Reservoir Level Crossing
The Andrews Labor Government has started work to remove 50 of Victoria’s most dangerous and congested level crossings, which will get Victorians home safer and sooner whether they drive or use public transport.
The Level Crossings Removal Authority has been established and has already started work on an overarching business case for the 50 level crossings covered by the Level Crossings Removal Project, including Reservoir.
This planning work will help the Authority to determine the nature of each site, how best to schedule works and where level crossings can be combined into packages of work to drive down costs, reduce disruption, and accelerate the delivery of the Project. Designs for each level crossing site will be developed and progressively released for community consultation.
The first 20 level crossings will be removed by 2018, with all 50 crossings to be removed over the next 8 years. The Labor Government provided $2.4 billion in the Budget for the removal of at least 20 of Victoria’s most dangerous and congested level crossings in its first term.
Last week, the Liberals and Greens teamed up to vote against legislation that supports funding for the removal of the remaining level crossings. This reckless act by the Liberal-Green coalition is a betrayal of the Victorian people, who voted to remove these congested death-traps. The Victorian community can be reassured that the Andrews Labor Government will keep fighting for what Victorians want and deliver what we promised – the removal of our most dangerous and congested level crossings.
I can assure you that as the Labor Member for Preston, I am working hard to ensure that the dangerous and congested Reservoir level crossing is removed as soon as possible.
